Following our ancestor's trails can be both fun and educational. An adventure that will take you to places around the world. Find out who you are related to, one of the first pilgrams to arrive on the Mayflower, a famous outlaw like Bill the Kid, or simply a person trying to start life in a newfound land.

Getting started can be a little overwhelming, just remember that Rome wasn't built in a day so do a little at a time and follow a systematic path. Keep good notes, it's the key to finding clues to help you track down hard to find relatives. Notes also keep you from repeating research as you trace your ancestor's trails.

When interviewing family members, its a good idea to bring along a voice recorder. Then you can focus on an enjoyable interview without having to worry about taking notes. A great place to talk about family history is at a family reunion, bring a video camera and have fun gathering information about your ancestors. Keep in mind your relatives may have trouble remembering exact dates and places so don't push, just have fun. Then when you have gotten your information, it's time to organize and store it.
